The 2022 bookshelf ornament—an exclusive design by local company Dither & Etch—speaks to the importance of literacy and access to education for women and girls in supporting economic self-reliance and active engagement in social, political, and cultural life. Since 1998, CW4WAfghan has trained more than 10,000 teachers, provided literacy classes for nearly 5,000 students, distributed 300 school library starter kits and established 40 community libraries. The bookshelf is accented with a tulip, the national flower of Afghanistan.
